Melanie Shear is a board-certified Adult and Geriatric Nurse Practitioner specializing in geriatric psychiatry. With over 13 years of experience working with dementia patients, she has been an integral part of Southern Psychiatry since 2020. Her expertise includes managing agitation and behavioral challenges in elderly individuals, end-of-life care planning, and treating a range of psychiatric conditions such as depression, anxiety, insomnia, OCD, bipolar disorder, and schizophrenia in assisted living and nursing home settings.

Passionate about patient and family education, Melanie works closely with caregivers to help them understand dementia progression and explore strategies to slow its impact whenever possible. She is committed to a compassionate, patient-centered approach, ensuring that both patients and their loved ones feel supported throughout their journey.

Melanie earned her Biomedical Sciences degree from Auburn University in 2005, followed by her Nursing degree in 2009, and later completed her Master’s in Nursing at Walden University in 2020 to become a Nurse Practitioner.

Outside of work, Melanie enjoys spending time with her husband of 16 years and their two children.
